To say this year has been stressful is an understatement. And while we’re still in the whirlwind of 2020-emotions, the Christmas holidays are coming up fast. With everything that’s going on, how are you supposed to focus on getting everything done in time to treat yourself to some well-deserved relaxation over the holidays? How can you end the year productively and get a crack on 2021, full of energy? Well, you’ve come to the right place. Check out our tips to help you deal with the last days at work and the first ones back.
Plan, delegate and communicate
Prioritize, prioritize, prioritize. Make sure that you and all your team members know which tasks need to be done before the Christmas break, and which ones can wait. If you leave for the holidays with a clear overview and a sense of control, you will find it easier to relax and let go. Prioritize and delegate tasks to teammates, communicate what exactly needs to be accomplished and why, and give feedback in time.
Be ok with saying no
Similarly, know when to simply say no to extra work during these last few weeks of the year. By prioritizing your tasks, you will quickly see how much extra work you can take on, what is necessary or beneficial to get done before Christmas, and what can wait for January.
Plan goals for the next year
Once you have a clear overview of the tasks that need to be done by Christmas, you can start thinking about your goals for the next year. Make a list of your priorities for the first few weeks back: note down the tasks that need immediate attention upon your return and tasks and projects for the following weeks. Also set some larger (maybe lofty) goals for the upcoming months or even the entire year so that you can start the new year inspired and goal-oriented.
Leave your work at work
When all this is done, you will be ready to leave work behind for your well-deserved time off. The last thing to do before leaving for the Christmas break is to organize your workplace for your first day back. Now in your home office, this may be a bit trickier. Put your work things away, ideally in a drawer or box that stays closed during the holidays, so you can really switch off. But also make sure to have everything organized and ready to hand for your first day back, so that you only have to reopen that drawer to find everything you need.
Also acteamo will be back where you left it – but with a few upgrades! These last few months we have been redesigning our website and have started developing an app for your smartphone that will be released early next year. Thus, in the new year you will be even more efficient and flexible when it comes to managing your projects, tasks and your team, and nothing will stand between you and a successful 2021 (touch wood)!
